Official emergency food response website for Coronavirus in Lancaster District

Posted on by

We are hugely proud to have built the official emergency food response website for Coronavirus in Lancaster District, run by Lancaster City Council and the Morecambe Bay Foodbank, which went live on 29 March.

Given the circumstances we had only a matter of days to create an online food referral system for people across the district that will also provide information for those looking for help.

We have created a digital system for food vouchers that will allow agencies to log in and refer people. The referrals are sent straight to the staff manning the operations room at Salt Ayre who process the order and send out a food parcel for delivery, often the same day.

It has been all hands on deck and lots of late nights for us – but that is nothing compared to the super human efforts made by the Council and Food Bank as they have put in place the means to provide emergency food to those that need it.

It is incredible and humbling to see what is possible when we all pitch in to get something done at a time of crisis.

And this really is a crisis – last year Morecambe Bay Foodbank issued 8152 three day emergency food parcels in a year.

Demand is now expected to skyrocket and the numbers of parcels going out each day are already in the hundreds.
