Manchester City send their club crest to the dressing room

Posted on by

Is there a more emotive visual identity than a football team’s crest? Of all the logos and symbols we see every day, a team’s badge is right up there with national flags as something people are most emotionally invested in.

So it’s interesting to see that Manchester City are to drop their current crest and adopt a new one, though not before taking the sensible decision to consult with their fans. From Manchester Evening News:

Last month the Blues launched a consultation with fans to determine if there was a will to change from the current badge.

And bosses said today there was “overwhelming desire” for a new badge amongst the thousands of season ticket holders and members who took in the process.

It means the current badge, containing elements of an eagle and three stars which the club have used since 1997, will now be ditched.

As part of the process fans were asked which symbols, such as the ship, three rivers and red rose, they most associated with the city of Manchester and would like to see in any new crest,

And the club say they have now tasked a team of designers to come up with a proposal, which will be revealed to fans in the coming weeks.
