  • First job?

After an extended placement at J. Walter Thompson in Manchester, I secured my first full-time role at a small design agency in Bolton. It was a fast-paced studio environment where I was thrown in at the deep end, working across a wide range of projects and industries. I learnt a huge amount in a short space of time, and it really helped shape the foundations of my creative career.

  • Which people do you most admire?

In business, it’s definitely my Mum and Dad. They both built successful businesses of their own and worked incredibly hard to make them a success. Growing up around that entrepreneurial mindset had a huge influence on me, and their work ethic is something that’s always stayed with me throughout my career.

  • Why "Hotfoot"?

Back when I started the agency, there were lots of weird and wonderful agency names around, and I wanted something that would stand the test of time while reflecting the kind of business we wanted to be. and 'Hotfoot' had a sense of energy and pace to it. Over the years I’ve thought about changing it to something a bit cool, but I actually like the geeky qualities.

  • Favourite bit of tech?

Unpacking a new Apple product is hard to beat. Every tiny detail feels considered and intentional, from the product itself right through to the packaging. It really resonates with my Product Design background and appreciation for well thought-out design and user experience.

  • What's your music?

My taste leans towards trip hop, hip hop and alternative indie rock… whatever we’re calling it these days. That said, I’ve also got a soft spot for a bit of 90s G-Funk.

  • Favourite holiday destination?

I love exploring other countries and cultures and I've been about quite a bit over the years, but Portugal is still probably my favourite. My grandparents moved to the Algarve when I was five, so it’s a place I’ve grown up visiting and know really well. It’s got some of the most incredible beaches, great food, and a relaxed pace of life that’s hard not to love.

  • Favourite piece of art?

I’ve always loved well-crafted, unique furniture and have a real appreciation for timeless design. Mid-century pieces in particular really appeal to me, and I’ve even been known to refurbish the odd one myself.

  • Favourite apps?

Strava, WhatsApp and Spotify are mostly used.

  • Favourite film genre?

    A good dark comedy.

  • What did you want to be when growing up?

I grew up on a farm in Shropshire and my Dad was an accountant but creativity was always the thing I naturally gravitated towards. At school I thrived in art and design, especially Product Design, which eventually led me into Graphic Design at university.

  • Tell us something we don't know about you.

I’m a big rugby fan. Back in 2006, I was due to fly home from Las Vegas when I bumped into the All Blacks in a bar on the Strip while they were touring. Safe to say… I missed my flight. Full story on request.
